India is seeing an increasing number of business travellers (IIPM Publication)

With more and more multinational companies setting base in India, India is seeing an increasing number of business travellers combining business with leisure. The MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conventions, Events) market globally is another critical area that needs catching up in India. According to a survey conducted by the Federation of Hotel and Restaurant Association, corporate travelers account for more that 50 percent occupancy in hotels, laying credence to the fact that the business traveller is contributing a major chunk of the foreign arrivals in India every year. As per estimates from The India Economy Review 2004-05, a conference traveller spends roughly four to eight times more than a leisure traveller. Major competitors like Thailand, Singapore, Dubai and Malaysia have already achieved critical mass in MICE segment. The India Economy Review 2004-05 recommends infrastructure development on a large scale and advocates a vibrant public-private partnership model......
